Riese & Müller Multicharger4: a midtail for long-distance touring

Factory order only, from 2027. Riese & Müller build the Multicharger4 to order at their factory in Mühltal. Test bikes reach us in February 2027 and customer deliveries begin in March 2027. To order one, or to hear when you can ride one here at Little Dartmouth, get in touch.

The Multicharger4 is a touring bike with a midtail's back end. It rides like one of our trekking bikes, and it carries the tent, the stove and the food for a week away on a rear rack rated to 80 kg, without a trailer. We sold a lot of Superchargers to touring riders over the years, and this scratches the same itch with far more room on the back.

If you are comparing, it sits between our Charger5, the trekking bike, and our Load5, the cargo bike. And when the trip includes the children, the same bike takes two child seats.

Learn about the Multicharger4

Built for the long way round

Riese & Müller describe the Multicharger4 as the Charger5 design meeting the midtail concept, and that is how it rides: the handling of a trekking bike with a longer, stronger back end. A lowered top tube makes it easy to get on and off a loaded bike at a gate or a campsite, and the new angle-adjustable stem lets you set the cockpit up for a long day.

Range for multi-day trips

The touring, vario, automatic and both HS versions run a Bosch PowerTube 800, and the DualBattery option adds a side-removable PowerPack 800 for 1,600 Wh in total. The entry-level Family has a PowerTube 540. The touring, vario and automatic use Bosch's Performance Line CX: 85 Nm as standard, and up to 120 Nm with the optional Bosch Performance Upgrade 2.0 for loaded climbs. RX Chip GPS tracking is standard, with a year of ConnectCare included.

Room for the whole camp

The bike is rated to 200 kg all in, with up to 80 kg on the rear rack, up from 160 kg and 65 kg on the Multicharger3. A front carrier with the MIK system and a bag is an option, and the 25 km/h models are approved to pull a two-wheel trailer. A new double-leg kickstand holds it all steady while you load.

Kit it for the trip

Riese & Müller offer five equipment kits. For touring, the Cargo kit adds two large cargo bags and a top tube bag, and the Cargo kit Plus a sideloader, the Safety Bar and lower weather protection with a cover. When the trip includes children, the Family kits add the Safety Bar, which opens downwards so they can climb on by themselves, and seat cushions.

Still want a Multicharger3?

The Multicharger3 has not been discontinued. It continues in the 2027 price list alongside the Multicharger4, in both standard and Mixte frames, and because it is the current generation it delivers a good deal sooner than March 2027. If you want a midtail this year rather than next, talk to us and we will go through the differences.
